ShiftRide

Every shift, every seat, accounted for.

ShiftRide is software for staff-transport operators anywhere in South Africa. Drivers check riders in on their phone, riders get WhatsApp updates, night-shift staff tap "I'm home safe", and month end comes with proof your clients can check.

Fewer calls you dread.

Running staff transport means answering for things you didn't see. ShiftRide gives you the answer before the call.

  • Your bus never came this morning. Each stop arrival is recorded with the time: from your vehicle tracker if it's linked, otherwise from the driver's phone.
  • Only nine people got on, not fourteen. Each rider is marked on board or no-show at the stop, and the month-end invoice is built from those marks.
  • Did Thandi get home after the night shift? She taps "I'm home safe" on WhatsApp. If she doesn't, her supervisor is alerted after 30 minutes and you after 60.

A night shift, from both ends.

What the driver taps, what riders receive and what the office sees, in the order it happens.

  1. 17:40

    The driver starts the trip

A photo of the odometer, then the rider list for every stop. It works without signal; taps send when the phone is back in range.

  2. 17:52

"5 min away" goes to the next stop

The driver taps it, or it goes automatically as the vehicle nears the stop, using your linked tracker or the driver's phone GPS. Riders who said YES on WhatsApp get it, with the driver's name and the plate.

  3. 18:04

    Riders are marked on board

On board, no-show or dropped off, rider by rider. A walk-on is added by name. The office sees the run move on the live map.

  4. 18:31

    A road is blocked

"Route disrupted" tells everyone on the route at once, and an area alert warns your other drivers nearby.

    Everyone on the route
  5. 06:14

Dropped off, then "I'm home safe"

Each rider gets a one-tap check after the night shift. No tap means the supervisor gets an alert with a call button, then the owner.

Invoices per rider, per km or per route for each client, with a link to the trips behind every line. Credit notes when something was wrong.

One app on the driver's phone. One view for the office.

Drivers get big buttons that work in a moving vehicle. The office sees every vehicle, every alert and the month so far.

The ShiftRide office on a computer: a live map of vehicles, open alerts and today's numbers
The office: the live map, Home Safe alerts with a call button, and today's trips.
The ShiftRide driver app on an iPhone: today's trip and help buttons
The driver: today's trips, Help and Emergency one tap away.

Already have vehicle trackers? Link them.

You don't need a tracker: the driver's phone does the job. If your vehicles already have one, ShiftRide can read their positions so arrivals are recorded without anyone tapping.

How the link works

  • Your tracking company gives you an API login: a username and a key that let another system read your vehicle data. You type them into ShiftRide yourself. They're stored encrypted and never shown again.
  • ShiftRide matches each tracker unit to your vehicles by registration number.
  • ShiftRide only reads. It never changes anything in your tracker account and can't control a vehicle.
  • It asks for positions only around trips (from 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after), about once a minute. It doesn't ask for positions outside those times.
  • Positions are used for three things: the arrival time at each stop, the automatic "5 min away" message, and the odometer reading for service reminders when your tracker provides one.
  • A tracker doesn't count people. The driver marks each rider on board or no-show.
  • If the tracker stops answering during a trip, the office gets an alert and the driver's phone GPS and taps carry on.

What to ask your tracking company

  1. "Do we have API access on our account, and is there a fee for it?"
  2. "Please create an API user for us, with read-only access if you offer it."
  3. "Does the API give each vehicle's live position, and its odometer reading?"
  4. "Is each unit on our account labelled with the vehicle's registration number?"
  5. "How often may we ask for positions?" (ShiftRide asks about once a minute during trips.)

ShiftRide links to Cartrack and MiX. With Tracker, Netstar, Ctrack or another company, ask them the same questions and for their API documents: we build the link from those. Either way, we test the link with your login during setup, before you rely on it.

Built for the people who move shift workers.

Transport contractors

You run kombis or buses for factories, warehouses, call centres or farms, and invoice them every month.

  • Invoices per rider, per km or per route, built from the trips
  • An evidence link your client can open, so disputes end quickly
  • Subcontractor trips listed for paying owner-drivers

Companies with their own vehicles

You transport your own staff and need to know who got to work and who got home.

  • Who rode, who didn't, and how late each trip ran
  • Home Safe checks after night shifts, with escalation
  • Fuel slips, service dates and licence reminders in one place

Software for your transport, anywhere in South Africa.

ShiftRide is a system you subscribe to, from Musina to Cape Town. You run the vehicles and employ the drivers; ShiftRide takes the admin and the guesswork out of it.

What ShiftRide does

  • Gives your drivers the day's trips and rider lists on their phone
  • Sends your riders WhatsApp updates
  • Alerts your own supervisors when something needs a follow-up, like a missed "I'm home safe" tap
  • Builds your month-end invoices from the trips, with proof your clients can open

What ShiftRide isn't

  • Not a transport company: it doesn't supply vehicles or drivers
  • Not a security or emergency service: nobody at ShiftRide watches your vehicles or sends help. Alerts go to your own people
  • Not a replacement for your duty of care: you stay responsible for your drivers and riders

In danger, call 10111 or 112.

Questions operators ask

What is ShiftRide?

Software for companies that transport staff to and from work. Drivers get their trips and rider lists on their phone, riders get WhatsApp updates, and the office sees every vehicle and builds month-end invoices from the trips.

Where in South Africa does it work?

Anywhere: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Mbombela and smaller towns. The maps and road routes cover all nine provinces.

Do riders need to install an app?

No. Riders get WhatsApp messages: “5 min away”, cancellations, route changes and a one-tap “I’m home safe” after night shifts. Only drivers use the app.

Do our vehicles need trackers?

No. The driver’s phone records arrivals. If your vehicles already have Cartrack or MiX, ShiftRide can read their positions; Tracker, Netstar and Ctrack on request.

Is ShiftRide a transport or security company?

No. ShiftRide is software. You run the vehicles and employ the drivers, and its alerts go to your own people. In an emergency, call 10111 or 112.

What does it cost?

R900 per vehicle a month for 1 to 5 vehicles, R800 for 6 to 15 and R750 for 16 or more, with every feature included. Minimum R1,800 a month; setup is R2,950 plus R250 per vehicle.
